Solitude

They paved the road years before you arrived
You were placed there years before you could know
Twelve plus four is how you fall into their trap
Learn to consume—learn to drown with a grin

How do you say no?
When you’re a slave to the money.

How do you say no?
When they hide the other paths.

How do you say no?
When they’ve made you so scared.

The hours drain you to the bone
At least you can afford that ice cold beer
The days will kill you slowly
At least you can afford that shiny car

How do you say no?
When the next best thing is within your grasp.

How do you say no?
When the truth is covered in a shroud of entertainment.

How do you say no?
When the resistance fled so long ago.

I refuse to be the tool for their bigger paycheck.
I refuse to be a part of this
But where do I start?

When opening your eyes makes reality clear
Then all I know is that I am alone.
Solitude.  Is that the only choice?
